Background of the Study

The performance of emergency nurses is crucial to the overall functioning of emergency departments, as they are often the first point of care in critical situations. Salary levels have long been considered a key motivator influencing job performance across various professions, including nursing. This study aims to assess how salary levels affect the job performance of emergency nurses at Ogun State Teaching Hospital, examining whether adequate compensation enhances motivation and the quality of care provided in emergency situations.

Statement of the Problem

Despite the critical role of emergency nurses in saving lives, there have been concerns about low morale and suboptimal job performance due to inadequate compensation. In Ogun State Teaching Hospital, there is a lack of clear understanding about the direct impact of salary levels on the job performance of emergency nurses. Without proper compensation, nurses may experience burnout, reduced motivation, and lower-quality care, which could negatively impact patient outcomes. This study will investigate whether salary levels correlate with job performance and the quality of nursing care provided in emergency settings.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To examine the impact of salary levels on the job performance of emergency nurses at Ogun State Teaching Hospital.
  2. To determine the relationship between salary satisfaction and job satisfaction among emergency nurses.
  3. To explore the effects of salary-related motivation on the quality of care delivered by emergency nurses.

Research Questions

  1. How do salary levels affect the job performance of emergency nurses at Ogun State Teaching Hospital?
  2. Is there a relationship between salary satisfaction and job satisfaction among emergency nurses?
  3. To what extent do salary levels influence the quality of care provided by emergency nurses?

Research Hypotheses

  1. There is a significant relationship between salary levels and the job performance of emergency nurses at Ogun State Teaching Hospital.
  2. Salary satisfaction positively influences job satisfaction among emergency nurses.
  3. Higher salary levels improve the quality of care provided by emergency nurses.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study will focus on emergency nurses employed at Ogun State Teaching Hospital. Limitations include the challenge of self-reported data from nurses, which could introduce response biases. Furthermore, variations in individual financial responsibilities and non-salary-related motivations may affect findings.

Definitions of Terms
